Enabling and Disruptive

Aquion’s flexible energy storage solution has disruptive cost and performance attributes that create value for customers.

Applications

Aquion's batteries provide a compelling value proposition for many stationary energy storage applications. The low capital cost, very long cycle life at 100% depth of discharge, high round trip efficiency and lack of maintenance requirements make the overall solution much less expensive than alternatives on a total cost of ownership basis

Strong in a Broad Array of Applications:

The building block of the Aquion solution is a modular ~2 V battery unit that can be connected in series and parallel to any desired configuration. Due to the battery’s flexibility, the technology addresses a broad set of applications and markets.

Aquion’s technology is an excellent match for a wide variety of stationary electricity storage applications from longer duration energy applications to shorter duration power applications.

Real World Scenario Spotlights

T&D Upgrade Deferral:

Sodium Sulfur (NaS) is the primary electrochemical storage mechanism being deployed today for T&D Upgrade deferral. In comparison, Aquion’s technology has over twice the system life and is already 25% less expensive at a cell level with more cost savings expected as production is scaled. There is potential for even more savings due to low balance of system costs, less onerous siting requirements and no requirement for maintaining a continuous high temperature environment.

Off Grid Solar:

Currently, the dominant storage system for off-grid solar is the lead-acid battery due to its low capital cost and compatibility with existing power-control electronics. Aquion has developed a competitively priced system that is a drop-in replacement with at least three times the life of the leading lead- acid battery pack without the maintenance requirement. Traditional lead-acid systems are often oversized two to three times the desired capacity because of the degradation associated with deep discharge cycles. Aquion’s batteries can be repeatedly cycled to 100% depth of discharge without capacity fade. This provides far more useful capacity than lead-acid devices with which a daily duty cycle is necessary.
